The rich and varied forests of the district have a considerable NTFP potential. Some of the major items which contribute to the rural economy are: Kendu leaf, Sal leaf, Siali leaves, Sal seeds, Mahua, Tamarind, Amla, Harida and Bahada, etc. 

Kandhamal district comprises two forest divisions namely Balliguda Territorial Division & Phulbani Territorial Division. The area of Balliguda (T) Division extends over 5 C.D Blocks  namely Balliguda, Tumudibandh, Kotagarh, Daringibadi and K.Nuagam.. Phulbani (T) Division covers 7 C.D Blocks namely Phulbani, Khajuripada, Phiringia, Raikia, G.Udayagiri, Tikabali, and Chakapad. The total Forest Area under different categories in Balliguda & Phulbani division  is 3024.46 & 2683.37 Sq. Kms as per DLC report.
