Job : The Superintendent of Police is
responsible for all matters concerning the general administration and day to day
management of the police force of the district. He is also responsible for the efficiency
and discipline of the force and for the performance of all its preventive and executive

Job : Reserve Inspector of Police is the
in charge of the armed and ordinary reserve force and he is responsible for their drill,
discipline,training and efficiency. He is also responsible for the care and custody of the
arms, ammunition, equipments, stores, tents, uniform, etc. He supervises daily parade,
firing practice, inspects arms and equipments, barrack, etc.

There are two Police Circles in the district each headed by
Inspector of Police.

SADAR POLICE CIRCLE : It consists of 1. Town PS, 2. Sadar ,
3. Gochhapada, 4. Phiringia , 5. Khajuripada, 6. Tikabali 7. Raikia, 8. G.Udayagiri Police
Stations.

BALIGUDA POLICE CIRCLE : It consists of 1. Balliguda, 2.
Tumudibandh, 3. Kotagarh 4. Belghar, 5. Sarangada, 6. Daringbadi and 7. Bamunigaon Police
Stations.

Job : Each Inspector of Police of circle is
responsible for the
supervision, control and general efficiency of all police work in their jurisdiction. They
may exercise the same powers throughout his circles as an Officer-in-Charge of a police
station within the limits of his station.

COMMUNAL : The district share of population of Christians are
on steady increase which has now reached 15% (as per 1991 Census). There is resistance of
the activities of missionaries in some areas like under Town, Kotagarh, Balliguda,
Sarangada, Phiringia PS areas. Due to this recent development there is ill-feeling and
tension on communal line at the village level.

The post criminal activities by both communities in brief are
as follows :

During period from 28.11.86 to 9.2.87 Ratha Yatra was
organised by Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati of Chakapad Ashram under Tikabali PS, it
resulted in heightened tension and registration of following number of cog.cases.

ETHNIC : The population distribution of SC and ST in the
district is 1,00,000 (18%) and 2,81,000(51%) respectively. There was an ethnic riot
experienced by this district during the year 1994. The main issue during this period was
the illegal and forcible possession of lands belonging to ST community by members of SC
community.The brief note on criminal activities by both groups during the period of
ethnic riot is as follows ;

Immediate Cause : Entry into Barada balunkeswar Shive temple
at village Khudutentuli under Tikabali PS on 14.1.94 by Harijan(SC) member.

The over all crime and law and order situation in the
district is well under control except for few isolated incidents which take place at
regular interval.
